The AI stack built for small HR teams.

Onboarding, PTO, reviews, headcount planning — without ripping out your HRIS.

A 2-person HR team supporting 150 employees is a specific kind of impossible. You're running onboarding for new hires, chasing managers for performance review cycles, reconciling PTO across the payroll system and the Slack channel where people ask, building ad-hoc headcount models for the CFO, answering the same benefits questions eighteen different ways, and trying to keep playbooks current in a Notion that nobody reads. The tools you have — Rippling or BambooHR for HRIS, Gusto or Paylocity for payroll, Lattice or 15Five for reviews, Greenhouse for ATS, a Slack bot for PTO — each solve a slice and none of them glue together. Starch doesn't replace your HRIS. It connects to it (via the integration browser or direct Paylocity/ADP sync) and lets you build the in-between surfaces — the onboarding tracker, the review-cycle dashboard, the headcount scenario model — as natural-language apps on top of the data you already have.

Workflows we cover for Small HR Teams

Do I need to replace my HRIS to use Starch?
No. Starch connects to BambooHR, Workday, Rippling, Gusto, Greenhouse, Lever, and Deel through the integration browser, and has dedicated Tier 1 integrations with Paylocity and ADP. Your HRIS stays the source of truth; Starch builds the workflows and dashboards on top of it.
Are there pre-built HR apps?
No dedicated HR starter pack, but several starter apps directly serve HR work. Scheduling handles interview and kickoff coordination (Google Calendar and Calendly are Tier 1). Task Manager runs onboarding and review-cycle checklists. Knowledge Management holds policy and benefits playbooks. Scenario Analysis and Budgeting cover headcount modeling and comp planning. The HR-specific trackers — onboarding with HRIS integration, review cycles, PTO rules — are natural-language-authored ('build me an onboarding checklist that pulls new hires from Rippling and creates a 30-60-90 plan in Notion') on top.
Can Starch handle performance review cycles?
Yes — typically as a custom app. You describe the cycle (timeline, who reviews whom, self-review questions, calibration meetings) and Starch builds a tracker that nudges managers, collects responses, and summarizes outcomes. It doesn't replace Lattice if you already love Lattice, but it works well for teams that were running reviews in a spreadsheet.
How does this help with headcount planning?
Scenario Analysis pulls live payroll cost from Paylocity or ADP (or your Plaid-connected bank), lets you model adds and changes under different revenue assumptions, and produces the view the CFO actually wants. Quarterly Budgeting handles the compensation band and merit-cycle planning that usually lives in a locked spreadsheet.
What about PTO and time-off tracking?
If your HRIS already tracks PTO, Starch reads it live and can answer questions in Slack or build a dashboard on top. If you're currently tracking PTO in a spreadsheet or Slack channel, you describe the rules and Starch builds a PTO tracker with approval flows, calendar integration, and balance calculations.
Is this secure enough for HR data?
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. HR-specific honesty: Starch is not SOC 2 Type II certified yet, and there's no on-prem option. For teams with strict compliance requirements, flag this during beta signup. For most small HR teams at sub-250-person companies, the security posture is comparable to your existing HRIS integrations.
