The AI stack built for small law and accounting practices.

Intake, matter and engagement tracking, client comms, billable capture, and deadline workflows — without an enterprise PMS.

A six-attorney firm or a four-CPA practice runs on Clio, QuickBooks, Outlook, and a paralegal who remembers everything. Intake forms come in through the website and land in somebody's inbox. Conflict checks happen in a shared spreadsheet. Billable hours get reconstructed on Friday afternoons from calendar and memory. Tax deadline tracking lives in a wall calendar. Client update emails take an hour each to write because you're pulling context from five places. LawPay, Clio Manage, MyCase, Karbon, and TaxDome each solve a slice — but none of them draft the client-status email, build the deadline dashboard across all partners, or summarize the matter for the junior associate joining next week. Starch connects to your practice management tool, Outlook or Gmail, Calendar, and QuickBooks, and lets you describe the surfaces on top — intake triage, matter dashboards, deadline trackers, billable-capture prompts — so the work that's currently living in your paralegal's head becomes a system.

Workflows we cover for Small Law and Accounting Practices

Does Starch replace Clio, MyCase, or TaxDome?
No — it sits on top. Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, Karbon, and TaxDome connect through the integration browser, and Starch queries them live. You keep running matters, engagements, and trust accounting in your practice management tool; Starch handles the cross-system workflows those tools don't cover, like summarizing a matter from email threads or generating the weekly deadline dashboard.
Can it help with intake and conflict checks?
Yes, as a custom app. Describe your intake process — what fields you capture, which attorneys cover which practice areas, how conflicts get checked — and Starch builds an intake triage flow pulling from your website form, Gmail, and a conflict list in Notion or a spreadsheet. New inquiries get routed, conflict-checked, and logged without the paralegal retyping anything.
How does billable-hour capture work?
Starch reads Google Calendar or Outlook (Tier 1 sync) and Gmail/Outlook messages, and can draft time entries end-of-day based on meetings, emails sent, and documents worked on. You describe your rate rules and matter codes; Starch pushes the draft entries into Clio or Karbon for review. Most attorneys recover 3-6 billable hours per week they were previously eating.
What about deadline and statute-of-limitations tracking?
Describe your matter types and deadline rules (court deadlines, tax filing deadlines, SOL dates) and Starch builds a deadline tracker pulling matter data from your PMS and court calendar. It nudges the responsible attorney at configurable intervals, escalates to the managing partner if unanswered, and produces a weekly firm-wide deadline report for Monday partner meetings.
Can we use this for client communication drafts?
Yes. The Email Agent reads the matter or engagement thread, pulls relevant context from your PMS and documents, and drafts a client update in your voice. For accounting practices, it's especially useful for 1099 season, extension requests, and annual review emails. You edit and send — the first draft saves 20-40 minutes per email.
Is this compliant enough for client confidentiality?
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Honest limits: Starch is not SOC 2 Type II certified yet, and there's no on-prem option. For firms with strict bar-association tech requirements or handling highly sensitive matters (M&A, regulated industries), flag this during beta signup. Many small practices find the security posture comparable to the Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace they already use.
